January is a bad month to find out that a year of settlements does not add up to a 1099. The annual summary is now one screen: every pay category carries a tax class, the box 1 total is what those classes add up to, and each contractor says whether it is ready to file or still missing information.
What changed
The report opens on the numbers you file on. The box 1 total for the year, how the settlements split between taxable pay, fuel and tolls, and everything excluded, and a readiness ring that counts contractors as filed, ready to file, or needing information before they can be.
Classification moved into the report itself. Every credit and debit category is listed with its total for the year and the class it carries: taxable income that lands in box 1, reimbursement, deduction, advance recovery, or pass-through. Load pay is always taxable and counted for you, and the banner on the summary says how many categories are still unclassified.
Classification lives in the report: every category with its total for the year and the tax class it carries.
Each contractor is one row with its own status, and the row opens into the settlements behind the number: the lines that build the box 1 subtotal, the deductions with the amount withheld, and the fuel, tolls and pass-through that stay out of the form.
A contractor opened: the lines that build box 1, the deductions withheld, and what stays out of the form.
A tax id is masked until you ask for it, and a missing one is a link that opens the payee, so the gap gets filled where you noticed it. Filters for type, payee and state, a search across payee, driver, SSN and EIN, and a CSV export of exactly what you are looking at finish the screen.
Why it matters
The report is only as honest as the classification behind it. With both in one place, a category nobody has classified cannot quietly leave money out of box 1: it is on the screen, counted, and one click from being decided. And "are we ready for January" becomes a number you read in a second instead of a spreadsheet you rebuild every year.
How to use it
Open Accounting, then Reports, then 1099 Report. Pick the year, clear whatever the banner reports as unclassified, then work the Needs info filter until every contractor has a tax id and an address. Export the CSV for your accountant at any point.
